Harrison’s practice explores materiality and process through the genre of still life. Each work begins with arrangements of flowers, drapery and everyday objects, translated into layered, hand-cut plywood compositions. Every element is cut, carved, painted and embroidered by hand, bringing together sculpture, painting and textile practices.

In an increasingly mass-produced world, Harrison’s work is an ode to craftsmanship and the handmade. Central to her practice is the belief that handmade objects carry something of the maker within them, with every mark, imperfection and decision embedded in the final piece.

Influenced by William Morris and the Arts and Crafts Movement, Harrison transforms ordinary plywood into intricate assemblages rich with colour, texture and dimension through labour-intensive processes including carving, sanding, painting and embroidery.

The interplay between traditionally masculine woodworking techniques and historically feminine textile practices is central to her work, where strength and softness, structure and delicacy coexist. Reminiscent of a jigsaw puzzle, each artwork slowly emerges through an intuitive yet methodical process, embracing the tension between control and chaos, precision and imperfection, with the act of making valued as highly as the finished result.
