Morgana Celeste is a Melbourne-based artist. In 2020, Morgana began creating work to brighten the walls of her dark Fitzroy North rental. She kept going until all the walls were full of colour and soon had so much work she decided to have her first show. Morgana’s work is influenced by everyday surroundings; the natural landscape along the Yarra/Birrarung river, watching light stream through trees and witnessing the subtle changes of each season through bouquets of flowers from the farmer’s market. Combining her love of materiality and composition, Morgana makes textural, abstract three dimensional works that sit somewhere between painting and sculpture. Created using an unconventional mix of materials such as paper, plaster and fine acrylic paint, each piece draws attention to the medium’s tactile quality and surprising beauty, rendered unrecognisable from its original form and intended use.
Every piece is a playful collage of memories, textures and found visuals. They celebrate light hearted moments of quiet joy with an aim of calling attention to overlooked beauty in our every day lives. Her work has been shown in a number of publications from Frankie Magazine, to the Design Files, Real Living and more.
